I know, I know, I just said the other day that I was posting my very final heron shot of the season and then BOOM here’s yet ANOTHER one! Sawwww-reeee I mean, I just couldn’t resist this one I took on Deerock Lake. Is this Miss October 2025 or WHAT? I’m pretty sure our last paddle had us seeing the last heron, the last of the loons, maybe the last snapper, this season anyhow. It’s been a season of herons, herons, herons for me it seems.

So here we are at gosh darn Thanksgiving already, WTAF. I wish the hours and days would just slow down a bit, don’t you? The weather up until late last night has been superb though, further cementing into my brain that fall has hands down got to be the most fav season of mine. We do need the rain though but it would be nice if it could hold off just one teeny tiny more weekend.

I’ve not done much leaf hunting this year, I’ve been cramming my searches into a couple of days mostly in my area. The granddaddy of it all place to go is Algonquin Park, I have to say. To see it ONCE in the fall will fulfill you for many years but the past few years to be quite honest with you it turns into a shitshow with “Boxing Day” like folks invading the park, traffic jams, overfilling the parking lots, parking “almost” off to the side of the live highway, an endless stream of folks walking the trails, it’s insane! Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to see folks out appreciating it but there are other amazing spots to check out the fall colours, there truly are. Check online using the AllTrails app or your local conservation area or provincial parks sites. Ok enough of me lecturing and being all bossy and stuff.

Oh, my calendar has gone to get printed now and if you check my cover page in comments below you will see a sneak shot of the 2024 Calendar. Thank you to those of you who have already pre-ordered, thanks to y’all I’m about 25% sold! $35CDN shipped to you, send e-transfer & address to: heathercards@hotmail.com.

Ok, do you have a fav memory from Thanksgiving? I’ll go first…..spending it up at my late Aunt Eunice’s place on Bass Lake outside of Orillia with all the cousins. Pouring enough gravy over everything on my plate to float the meat and veggies and devouring it whilst sitting on the living room floor. Prep space so tight the salad got made in the kitchen sink and rumour has it, said salad may have contained an earwig or 2. My mom’s green jelly salad. I know there’s more. What about you? Comment below.

Oh ONE MORE THING! If you are out & about traversing the highways and backroads for fall colour PLEASE, PLEASE be cautious of TURTLES, SNAKES and ok MAYBE not those little caterpillars crossing the roads. I have had to hustle 3 or 4 snappers over the roads in the past week. They’re headed to their winter homes, let’s make sure they get there safely in the direction they’re heading.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours whatever you get up to and stay safe!

Peace, love and kumbaya,
Heather
